Junípero’s Highlights
1960
Juniper School was established in 1960 by the Passionist Priests, with the objective of providing education to the American children who temporarily resided in Mexico and had no command of the Spanish language.
1968
In 1968, the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose took over the administration of a school initially directed by the Benedictine Sisters. Several Dominican Sisters were sent to Mexico to administer the school, including Sister Ellen Kelly, as the school Principal, Sister Dolores Marie Diaz, Sister Imelda Marie Dibble, Sister Rose Martin, and Sister Carol Prutsos.
1970
In 1968, the school had nine groups of students, ranging from Prefirst to Eighth Grade. Two years later, a new building was constructed, which allowed for two groups per grade and reduced the number of students per class.
1980
In 1980, low enrollment led to the discontinuation of Seventh and Eighth grades. A Kindergarten building was constructed that same year, and a third floor was added to the "new building" in 1985. The original building was also extended towards Bondojito Street.
1996
In 1994, a Financial Committee was formed to construct a multi-purpose building in the play area. Margaret E. Kelly Auditorium, MEK Auditorium, was inaugurated in 1996, which included a music classroom, a chapel, two extra classrooms, and bathrooms. On the same year, a Prekinder level was added for three-year-olds.
2013
Sister Ellen Kelly OP's death in 2013 left a remarkable legacy of excellence in education, enabling students to excel in various disciplines. She was an exceptional leader with a deep understanding of the changing world and an outstanding character. The school still stands today as a testament to her dedication.
2014
In 2014, the school underwent a significant transformation of its buildings and grounds. The Kindergarten and Big School were entirely modified, and an underground parking lot was added.
2024
In 2024, our activities and objectives are thriving. Every student in Junipero will be guided and equipped to excel during their time at Junipero.
School Philosophy
Juniper School is a faith-based community that prioritizes the development of each individual's spiritual, intellectual, moral, emotional, and physical growth according to their unique capabilities. The students, parents, faculty, and staff work, learn, and pray together to strengthen their devotion to God.
Junípero’s Core
Dominican Sisters
The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose have served Germany, Mexico, and the United States for 125 years. The Dominican order was founded almost 800 years ago by Dominic de Guzman, who envisioned a life rooted in the word of God through personal and liturgical prayer and combining contemplative and apostolic life.
